Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has unveiled Ghost and Mini Panther, rotary wing mini UAV system which will be displayed next week at the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) exhibition in Washington. Designed for covert operations, the Ghost is 145 cm long and weighs at 9 lb. It will help in providing real-time intelligence and is capable of flying up to 30 minutes with a payload of 500 g.

It also has a unique automatic vertical take-off and landing system which is possible due to its twin rotary engines. In case of one of the engine fails, it can operate with the other engine. The Ghost runs with minimum noise and can manoeuver through obstacles effortlessly. Two soldiers can easily carry the whole system including batteries, two UAVs, and communications equipment. The Ghost, with NextVision sensor is quite intuitive and requires minimal amount of training. Another UAV, called Mini Panther weighs at 12 kg and can operate up to 90 minutes with 1 kg of payload. The system can be carried by a single soldier and comes equipped with automatic vertical take-off and landing system. Both these UAVs will significantly help in combating militants in cities and thus will help in decreasing the number of casualities.
