Get ready for the next-generation optical drives!

Toshiba and Hitachi are already in race for ‘the next generation’ storage devices / drives. They now welcome you to the age of DRM-infused media formats. Still, they do not remove viruses but they bestow you with another cutting-edge technology that has some serious potential for media centers. In my opinion, every other gadget freak would find this technological advancement a class-apart.

Toshiba flaunts it’s “slimline notebook HD DVD writer", this mean writer is capable of burning more than 15 GB capacity disks, wow, isn’t that awesome? It also enables you with sufficient back up for your important data, so that you may not loose it by chance. It is competent enough to store your movies and related stuff in the form of AAC format.

The other one bestows you with the functionality you would love to try your hands on – “the flawless ability to work on media centers”. It is in fact a combination of HD and BD drives that helps you burn BD disks having dual layers (50GB capacity). It rips and burns BD-R and BD-RW disks along with your DVDs and CDs too. But sadly, it doesn’t accomplish HD-R and HD-RW.

This Hitachi drive speaks highly of a SATA interface that would help you read those next generation media formats at a blazing 6-x speed and write them at 4-x speed.
