Interpreting expressions is a tough challenge even for a mentally potent human so imagine how good the algorithms that comprehend hand gestures and convert them to text language would be! These algorithms are brought into use through the accelerometers in a cellphone and the entire application is dubbed the PhonePoint Pen. The students at Duke University have worked hard thus far, but the system is still very slow, as it requires precise motions to facilitate comprehension. A faster application is welcome and I’m sure they are working toward it. Video after the jump.
