Genetically engineered bacteria used to create fluorescent Mario

Are you willing to take tinkering with Mario in a good spirit? Right, it’s difficult to imagine the good old virtual friend in some other avatar, but the Japanese know what they are doing, therefore the students from the University of Osaka have taken extra care in their Mario animation that’s made fluorescent using genetically engineered bacteria. Created in a petri dish by combining standard biological parts called BioBricks and their own unique DNA pieces to manipulate fluorescent proteins and carotenoid pigments, the image is submitted for iGEN (international Genetically Engineered Machine competition).
