General Dynamics developing XM307, a gun with programmable rounds

Posted By: Jaiyant Cavale | Sep 10 2008

General Dynamics is developing the XM307, a lethal gun that may be required at the war front. Meant to replace traditional weapons, the XM307 may go ahead and replace many medium machine guns as well, which is a good thing for the navy, wheeled vehicles and helicopters. The XM307 is a 25mm munition and is light but lethal. It consists of grenade-like rounds, which can be programmed to detonate at a given distance. Trench warfare, building targets, etc. are helped with the revolutionary airburst munitions technology. However, this weapon has still not been used in warfare and that leaves us with a certain level of uncertainty. If all goes well, the XM312 may soon reach the hands of soldiers.
