GE exploring OLED technology for further possibilities
OLED (organic light emitting diode) technology is the heart of majority of display medium ranging from cell phones to portable media players and to some extent even in computer monitors. This same technology could be the future of illumination, if GE is to be believed.
In thier quest for harnassing the potential of OLED technology, GE Global Research is working on a prototype of an OLED light. In their gradual effort, the GE research project has come out with a 2-foot square panel generating a significant amount of white light.
Being flexible in nature, OLED technology can be engineered to change colors to create potential for various unique lighting and display applications.
To consolidate their belief in OLED based illumination source, GE is now working on ways to drive the production cost of OLED technology down to make it a more practical substitute over the conventional sources of illumination.
A small road sometimes lead to bigger destinations, and GE is working to prove this right.
