In Xbox 360, technologies like IBM Power PC with a trio of 3.2GHz cores and ATI graphics processor were used as those were the best devices in 2005. However, Xbox 720 would most likely include Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge CPU, Nvidia GTX 580 graphics card and for storage 8GB of DDR3 with 1TB of onboard storage.
User friendly
We can assume that this latest Xbox will be user friendly as Microsoft has always paid attention on the user friendliness of their products. So, most possibly Microsoft would like to make a simple but intriguing platform which would be interesting enough for both novice and experienced player. The previous two versions of Xbox used this method of using simple platform to attract every sort of gamers too.
New storage techniques
This new Xbox 720 would most probably use cloud storage. There are chances that it might use an AMD Fusion chip which is currently one of the newest devices on the market.
Newly developed software
Speculations are that some newly developed software would be used to produce graphics that gives never-seen-before-in-gaming levels of details and highly improved artificial intelligence. Some says that Microsoft would like to make this newest version as tiny as possible, owing to the craze of marketing gadgets in a size that fit into a jeans pocket.
Hardware and controller
For the hardware, Microsoft Kinect hardware could be used. An improved version of this hardware would likely to be used in the new Xbox 720 ( Kinect already has sales topping 10 million ). Like the previous Xbox models, the gamepad will remain as an input device and gesture-control too will stay.
Use of highly advanced graphics
Director of ISV relationships at AMD, Neal Robison said that this latest Xbox's artificial intelligence and physics would allow every individual character to make individual choices rather than following some preloaded instructions. The characters will act differently based on the action. He also claimed that the graphics quality might be like those in the epic 3-D film Avatar by James Cameron.
AMD hasn't confirmed their involvement in the project. However, if these claims are true, then this new Xbox 720 will certainly offer a very unique experience with such levels of artificial intelligence, physics and graphics quality that have never been used before in games.
