Galactic SpaceShip Two makes first flight, count days before it propels you into space

It was about three months back when we saw the unveiling of the Virgin Galactic SpaceShip Two, and since we’d been looking forward for this day, when the rocket plane would actually take to the air. Cometh the time and the VSS Enterprise as they call it, fastened to the WhiteKnightTwo carrier airplane for the first time took to the air at California's Mojave Air and Space Port and stayed airborne for about three-hours.

Tested to know of the craft’s aerodynamics in real world environment, the SpaceShip Two remained attached between the twin fuselages of the WhiteKnightOne mothership. When actually ready for release the rocket plane will be released from the mothership at about 50,000 feet in air, from where it will fire up its own rocket engine to enter the outer space, but before that’s possible and the passenger operations can begin, the authorities wish to be satisfied with the security issues for which many more tests will be scheduled.

We learn that over 330 inquisitive travelers have already deposited $200,000 fare for a tour of space, but that’s not happening anytime until late 2011 or early 2012.
