Gadget uses your voice to charge mobile; so what’s your new excuse?

I wonder who came up with this idea, but whoever it was I bet there will be mixed emotions on how to label this innovative approach to charge mobiles.

I still remember when conversations were discontinued due to flat battery and at times when it was used as an excuse just to avoid calls. We should start finding a new excuse now as scientist have come with an inexpensive and ingenious idea that will help charge a mobile as we talk.

Able to transform sound into electricity, it will help charge the phone as we talk and the interesting part is higher the pitch the better the charge. The technology could also be used to power up personal music players by singing along to your favorite songs.

Dr Sang-Woo Kim of Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea, explains,

Just as speakers transform electric signals into sound, the opposite process of turning sound into a source of electrical power is possible.

This could just be the breakthrough when this technology can be successfully hosted into other devices and system to produce energy. In simple terms, the vice of noise pollution seem to be a blessing for the future portable energy consoles.

How does the mechanics work:

Tiny strands of zinc oxide (a main ingredient of calamine lotion) sandwiched between two electrodes and a sound-absorbing pad on top which vibrates with sound waves resulting the zinc oxide to expand and contract.

Scientist are still looking for better alternatives to improve the charging capabilities especially at low sound levels, as the current system will be able to function and produce energy at 100 decibels.
