Fujitsu going global with WiMax, BroadOne WX300

Fujitsu, better known for its telecommunication infrastructure, has decided to enter WiMax business. Not only that, but the company will be making its products available globally. Its BroadOne brand, comprising of three base stations will be available worldwide April onwards. The company will start off with three mobile stations and first one to hit the market will be BroadOne WX300. This base station works on a frequency bands of 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz and has a radius spanning several kilometers. Weighing about 20 kilos, it is small enough to be installed by one person. Fujitsu claims that WX300 is the smallest macrocell base station in the market.

The remaining two offerings will be similar to WX300, but would have lesser range. Among these the microcell station would have a range fit to cover a rural area, while the picocell station will be designed to serve a few buildings and offices. All of these base stations are touted as having very low power consumption levels.

These stations will be on show at the Mobile World Congress from February 11 to 14 in Barcelona. From the response there we’ll have an idea as to how the world will take these offerings once the company actually starts selling them.
