Fujitsu Laboratories has uncloaked the next generation version of its cholesteric liquid crystals-based LCD color digital e-paper module. The e-paper that has been put on display at the International Digital Publishing Expo highlights more brightness, contrast and color, says Fujitsu. From its previous e-paper module dubbed FLEPia Lite, the new display is far thinner and lighter thanks to superior display technologies inside.

Cholesteric liquid crystals technology helps develop color e-papers without many of previously used display components such as color filters, back lights and reflecting plates. That simply means the latest Fujitsu e-reader module will be quite slimmer, brighter and lighter. The device weighs at 220g turning it a comfortable display to take in hands for e-reading.
Unlike its previous e-reader FLEPia, the new one uses Linux OS. The change from Microsoft Windows to Linux has certainly improved performance of the device. The display of the module is sophisticated with a 4,096-color range and a writing speed of 0.7 seconds. The new Fujitsu e-reader sports an 8-inch display with a resolution of 157 dpi (dots per inch).
You can read file formats such as PDF, JPEG and EPUB on the device’s color display. Of course, the module will be a perfect device you can read newspapers, magazines and e-books. Fujitsu Laboratories has not disclosed price and release date of its new digital LCD display. Fujitsu says it is still working on the e-reader to make it further stronger with advanced features and fundamental capabilities.
