Earlier I mentioned that Apple will give heat to all third-party iPod speaker manufacturers. Though the Apple’s move is truly aimed at melting them down, but still the question arises, who’ll go for the £249 boombox, of course, apart from all die-hard Apple lovers.

Would you really like to replace your home stereo system with the iPod Hi-Fi with Altec-Lansing’s subwoofer-packed inMotion7 retailing at $249, DLO’s HomeDock, that allows you to hook your iPod to your home entertainment systems, worth $149 and the big daddy Bose Electronics’ $299 SoundDock. We must understand one simple thing that sound quality too has a limit up to which it can be polished and I thing we’ve already reached that limit, especially with Bose.

But here, by introducing yet another iPod speaker system, Apple aims at the whopping 42 million iPod holders. At least some of them would like to try it out and that some will make a hell lot of difference, at least for the other players.

“The price point and form factor are likely to appeal to people who are younger and have less disposable income, and who are making their first home stereo purchase,” said IDC analyst Susan Kevorkian. “It’s less likely to appeal to people who have a home entertainment system.”
