After spending years terrorizing and baffling people, making some look crazy to everyone, and generating immense buzz, scientists are now satisfied with their mischief and will let the cat out the hangar. Of course, that was an attempt at humor, as it was actually alien scientists, and not our human scientists playing those pranks. Another attempt at humor, but hopefully there were a few points squeezed in there. On a serious note, scientists, perhaps inspired by the flying saucer - dare I say - myths, have developed a prototype for a wingless flying craft of their own: the WEAV (wingless electromagnetic air vehicle).
The leader of the design team, Subrata Roy, from the University of Florida, says he doesn’t expect the WEAV to perform as powerfully as the flying saucers from movies, but he hopes to at least achieve sustained flight. The potential for this technology is limitless. It wasn’t too long ago that we managed to create solidstate flash harddrives for computers, and now we’re already talking solidstate propulsion engines. The technology was successfully tested by NASA about 8 years ago, where it was discovered that the electromagnetic propulsion needs ambient fluid such as air or water to operate, so space missions are eventually ruled out, meaning we can’t go playing pranks when we discover primitive alien civilizations.
