Apple’s first generation iPod nanos created a chaotic situation among the users after the Japanese Trade Ministry confirmed that two of the portable MP3 players, the MA099 and MA005, caused fire while charging. These models were sold in Japanese market between September 2005 and December 2006. Both of the models use rechargeable lithium ion batteries. These batteries are sensitive to fire when overheated. The fires scorched a paper and a straw woven mat. No one was injured but the iPods were warped and become unusable.
In any case, the fire incident may shrink popularity of Apple iPods. Perhaps, Apple knows it very well. That’s why the company has immediately come out to assure customers.
In a statement, the electronics giant has explained that the defect has been traced back to a single supplier. It is present only in .001 percent of the first generation nano model. The company is now ready to replace the defective first generation iPod nanos.
