FIFA may establish 'goal-line technology' at 2010 World Cup

Those close calls on the goal line have always kept the goalkeepers and refs in a dilemma, FIFA has long been wondering to sort the call right, for which introducing a goal-line tech has been thought for sometime. New technologies are flocking into sports for good, and this experimental system of plugging a microchip in the football seems to be a grand idea!

This microchip transmits an electronic signal to the referee's watch as soon as it crosses the goal line thus confirming about the status of the game.

FIFA executive, Viacheslav Koloskov, head of the Club World Cup organizing committee commented that -

FIFA is very much interested in the test results. If everything is perceived well enough, this goal-line technology will be widely used in the World Cup in 2010

FIFA has decided to use the high-tech system at the 2007 Club World Cup, to be contested by continental club champions in Japan between December 7 and 16.

It's been judged that Italian Serie-A side AC Milan and Boca Juniors of Argentina are the top contenders to win the same. However, FIFA never opted for this system to be used during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Nobuhisa Yamada, captain of the J-League side Urawa Reds, opined that -

Players are always concerned about difficult judgments. So if the technology improves the accuracy of goal-line calls, which will be great for players.
