A robot that has feelings and can understand our own emotions with sheer expressions and reciprocate accordingly- Sound more like Robin Williams in Bicentennial Man. Some might argue that ‘Rosey’ from the Jetsons qualifies for that and there is no arguing that from my side. But scientists claim that a robot that could react to human expression and understand our feelings could not be too far away. What more, they say that the robot would also respond with appropriate expressions of its own. So, are we on our way to creating machines that feel and share emotions? Dr Lola Canamero, the coordinator on the project, entitled Feelix Growing, says: for machines to take on bigger roles in society they need to learn how to adapt to people's behaviors. By getting in touch with human emotions, the robots can give the impression of empathy - being more effective to the people they serve, note researchers. Machine-creators explain that to determine a person's emotional state, the robots of the future are installed with complex cameras and sensors that detect human facial expressions, tone of voice, and proximity.

Feelix Angry...
The robotic neural networks adapt easily to changing patterns of human behavior - paying special attention to movement, which can tell a lot about an individual's emotional state. The team currently has the robot following them and studying and taking in data- much like a young one learning from parents. Once the project Feelix Growing is done (That will take good 3 years from now) we will have an all grown up Feelix that will understand and reciprocate to human emotions- Hopefully!
