If you have kitties at home, but have no one to take care of them when you’re touring out for days at a stretch, then you’d want to know more about this Mathew Newton devised internet-enabled cat feeder. Building one of these novel cat feeders yourself, you’ll always be connected (like with the social networks) to what’s happening back home and will therefore be able to feed your cats well and in time. The DIY machine uses a programmed Cisco switch controlled by signal from port status LEDs on it. When the user logs onto web and instructs the machine to dispense the food, the machine powered by a motor push-release the CD-ROM tray open to dispense specified quantities of cat food. The system can also be set on an automatic feed schedule and see live video of what’s happening. Video after the jump.
