FCC’s transition towards digital television has moved another step forward.
From March 1, any electronic device that contains an analog tuner will also be required to carry a digital one to complement it.
This deadline is least significant for consumers but has some significance to the manufacturers of TVs, VCRs, DVD players and recorders. These manufacturers will have to ship all their products that incorporate only an analog tuner by today evening.
Retailers on the other hand can continue to sell the products until their stocks last.
But like all other regulations there is a catch to this one also. Manufacturers can get around the expense of adding a digital tuner by removing the analog version.
