So, there is someone who thinks about the old worn-out chaps over here. The EmporiaLife phone revealed at CeBIT is an out of the blue handset specifically designed for old people with poor eyesight.

The new phone by the Austrian manufacturer Emporia is simple, large and without any hi-tech buffoonery that puzzles people who're not used to it. Your grandfather will easily find and read the buttons and keypad and the screen straightaway displays the contacts list to let him make his call without any quibbles. Just select the number by moving the up and down arrow keys and press the big green OK key.

The old-age friendly handset is also equipped with a large red emergency button on the back that holds up to 5 emergency numbers to call in case of any emergency but comes sans camera, sans video, sans email, sans Bluetooth and sans infrared. But interestingly it readily takes on normal AAA batteries in case the Li-Ion battery is dead.

Other technical specifications include:

GSM/CDMA (900/1800 or 850/1900MHz)

112mm x 55mm x 26mm

155g

200 hours standby time

80 minutes talk time
