A look at the eLocity A7+, an all new 7-inch Android tablet

First look

With so many tablets being released this holiday shopping season, it wouldn't be wrong to call this time of the year as "the season of tablets". Every day we bring you news and reviews about the upcoming tablets and once more we have interesting pieces of information about the latest tablet, the eLocity A7+, from the house of Stream TV Networks. eLocity A7+ offers you a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, a seven-inch (1024x600) capacitive multi-touch LCD, 4GB of internal storage and many more features at a price lower than most Android tablets.

What's new?

eLocity A7+ features the dual core Tegra 2 processor from NVIDIA for powerful performances. Along with that it also comes with WVGA (1024x600) LCD with multi-touch for crisp views and quick responses. It also has 3-axis accelerometer so you can play all your 3D games available for Android on the tablet. eLocity A7+ gives you many options to increase the storage capacity of the tablet by including a USB 2.0 port for plug 'n' play and a micro SD card slot expandable up to 32GB.

What's been refreshed?

eLocity A7+ is not the first tablet from Stream TV Networks, their first tablet eLocity A7 was launched last year during the fall with a price tag of $369.99. The specs sheet of the plus version looks exactly the same as that of its predecessor save the screen resolution and the lower price tag. Thus, eLocity A7+ has nothing new to offer other than the 1024x600 WVGA screen with multi-touch capabilities.

Features walkthrough

7-inch display: One of the good things about eLocity A7+ is its seven-inch display with a resolution of 1024x600, which makes it comfortable, light and superbly clear and bright. It's a multi-touch screen to meet all your needs.

Tegra 2: eLocity A7+ is powered by the second generation super-efficient dual core processor, NVIDIA Tegra 2 clocking at a speed of 1GHz for a faster performance and handling multi-tasking better.

Android 2.2: eLocity A7+ comes pre-loaded with the Android 2.2 or Froyo as we lovingly call it. Although Froyo has many nice features, you would miss having the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) on your tablet, especially if you have used it on your smart-phone.

HDMI Out: The inclusion of HDMI output allows you to view your HD media on a bigger screen in true 1080p definition.

Flash support: With eLocity A7+, you do not have to worry about browsing through Flash websites or loading any Flash contents on your tablet.

Plug 'n' Play: The tablet has support for plug 'n' play devices so you can easily plug your pen drives and more for accessing unlimited data without much fuss.

3-Axis accelerometer: If you are a gamer, you would love to know that the tablet can run 3D games with ease.

Webcam: The tablet also sports a 1.3 megapixel webcam for video chatting while connected to a WiFi system.

Wireless & Bluetooth: eLocity A7+ also brings Bluetooth and wireless connectivity to your tablet.

What's good?

eLocity A7+ has quite a few good things for a perfect tablet experience. It has many features that you would find use for in your everyday life. The inclusion of a USB 2.0 port, HDMI out, Flash support apart from the other features makes it worth a grab. And the best part about the whole package is the price, which is comparatively lower than most Android tablets in the market today.

What's not so good?

Sadly, the one thing that disappoints the most is the presence of Android 2.2 on board, instead of the latest Android 2.3, the Gingerbread. If you have used Gingerbread, you would know that it is far better than Froyo. Plus there's also the likelihood that you wouldn't be getting Android 3.0 Honeycomb or Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich officially on this tablet. If Stream TV Networks had included at least Android 2.3 on eLocity A7+, it would have given a strong competition to most Android tablets coupled with its competitive low pricing.

The eLocity A7+ also lacks a 3G model at present so your only option is WiFi.

Price and availability

As suggested by the press release, eLocity A7+ should be available for purchase from this week in the US market for a price tag of $229.99.

Wrap-up

The eLocity A7+ surely adds some competition in the tablet market with its many nice features. If it receives the Gingerbread upgrade or Honeycomb (but that's only a wish that we hope comes true), it would be a solid competitor to the Kindle Fire or the Nook Tablet. It's definitely a tablet that you should watch out for if you are tight on budget and aren't much concerned about the older operating system.
