Melting down woes of all those who crave for more laptop battery life, Elitegroup (ECS) has revealed a prototype of a notebook at Computex 2006 that actually runs for 500 hours on a single charge.

Surprisingly, the notebook works even while it is not switched on, via its 2-inch LCD screen and a directional control pad mounted onto the outside of the notebook, allowing users can browse through important data without turning it on. The machine runs on its own CPU, developed by PortalPlayer and is the same used in Apple’s video iPod, and 128MB of flash memory. Hence, delivering up to 500 hours easily, which would not be achieved while the whole notebook in switched on.

The wonder notebook equips Microsoft’s latest Windows Vista ‘SideShow’.
