Electronic eyes allow you to see with your brain

Posted By: Vikas Shekhawat | Apr 7 2006

Cheri Robertson calls herself a robo-chick, and why not, she's blind and can still see with those electronic eyes fitted on her glasses that allow her to see with her brain.

The device can turn out as a boon for millions of blind round the globe. A camera fitted on the tip of glasses, as you can see in the image above, sends signals to a computer that's strapped around the waist of the patient. The computer reads the signals and stimulates electrodes in the brain via a cord that goes into the head. But in stead of showing full moving images, the device just show flashes of light and outlines of objects.

Though still there are apprehensions with respect to complete safety of the device owing to the fact that the cord attached to the head may result in serious infections, but researchers are confident of diluting it in the next five years.
