Electromagnetic Railgun (EMRG) may sound cool but it is quite hot when we are talking about its working and fantabulous results. As the name suggests it is a gun that uses Electromagnetic power in some way or the other. This gun generates an extremely powerful electromagnetic field which throws projectiles at surprisingly high speeds which are rated as much as 32 MegaJoules. Railgun’s out come is a huge fireball which somehow seems to be quite a mystery. You may say that why is that a mystery? Well, solely because this thing here is powered by electricity only and thus these flames coming out of it look like a mystery. Collin Babb told PopSci about it and he says that these flames are created due to the disintegrated pieces of the projectile. These projectiles, which weigh around 7-pound, are firmly fitted between rails and when they are fired then pieces of it gets ripped off and due to high speed they ignite fire which gives birth to this mammothy fireball.

Navy wants to prepare a ship mountable EMRG which can strike the targets 200 miles away at speed of more than 8,000 feet per second. Navy’s current MK 45 has a range of just 20 miles and Navy hopes to change this by 2016 to 2018 by preparing a prototype of EMRG.
