Edmoton police would soon induct Woody, a sophisticated robot

Robotic intervention in public service is increasing by the day. With the idea of assisting the Edmonton Police Service in hazardous spills, hostage takings and tactical surveillance missions, the researchers at NAIT are developing the Woody, a sophisticated robot. The electric robot on completion will be a powerful all-wheel-drive mechanism with a mast-mounted camera able to extend to three-meters high. Controlled by a video game controller, Woody would be made well to aid police and fire crews in potentially hazardous situations, and wherever the cops may need this 100-pound robot good to roll at speeds of 16 km/h. Being made in parts worth just $10,000, Woody could be ready in one to two years.
