Edison's light bulb on the verge of disappearance

As the state lawmakers in New Jersey sniff the proposal of switching from incandescent to fluorescent bulbs, the Edison's bulb is getting near to extinction. The incandescent light bulb, which was developed for public use by Thomas A. Edison in the late 19th century is now being superseded by fluorescent lighting that is more proficient and long-lasting.

New Jersey assemblyman Larry Chatzidakis has proposed a bill that asks to switch from incandescent to fluorescent lighting in government buildings in the next three years. Chatzidakis said that 'The light bulb was invented a long time ago and a lot of things have changed since then. I obviously respect the memory of Thomas Edison, but what we're looking at here is using less energy.' In general, the fluorescent bulbs consume 50-percent less energy and last much longer than incandescent bulbs.

I do agree with what Chatzidakis has stated since we can't stick to the older technologies when we have new better things available at hand. No doubt, Edison was a great personality but we need to move with the time. It's not about disrespecting Edison, it's about moving ahead with the need of the hour.
