Japanese watchmaker Citizen has developed a mini robot driven by a tiny wrist watch motor. The two wheeled soccer robot has been named, “Eco-Be!” which is not more than 1.8 cm wide and 2.5 cm tall. Powered by watch batteries an infrared remote control operates the device. The robot can move backward and forward and also can be turned smoothly from one side to another. The robots have been built in-cooperation with the University of Osaka scientists. The mini robot is all set to take part in at the RoboCup 2006 tournament in Germany this June.
The purpose of the tournaments is to compare different approaches to robot vision, communications, cooperation and strategy.
