We can now hope for the colored version of the flexible, low-power screens by next year. E-paper has already been touted as a sound alternative to the newspapers, magazines, and books and the colored e-paper further add wings to the idea.

Russell Wilcox, president of E Ink Corp., a subsidiary of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said:

In the last nine months we’ve gone from manufacturing tens of thousands of parts to millions of parts.

Anyhow, the concept of e-books hasn’t caught that needed pace. No doubt, electronic ink is a breakthrough but it will be tough for it to battle the price factor with the newspapers, and magazines.

Now, E-ink is testing a color prototype of e-paper, which they plan to launch in the year 2008. For your info, it’s not the very first color e-paper as E-Ink has demoed the prototype of an e-paper display with 12-bit color in a 400×300 pixel format back in 2005 too.
