Remember those classic horror movies with those surreptitious phone calls that someone will die within 48 hours and the creeps it used to give us can barely be put into words! Well, guess what? It’s happening! Not to people but to DVDs. The movie will do just fine and may the actors live the happiest lives, but unfortunately, the DVDs now come with a life expectancy of 48 hours. A German company uses the DVD-D format that can be used normally after removing the cardboard sleeve but will delete all its contents after 48 hours of being out in the open! Apparently, it is due to some chemical process that degenerates all the data after 48 hours of being exposed to air.

Within those 48 hours they can be seen time and again with normal features like subtitles, rewind, forward, pause and play but after 48 hours, these DVDs will show the message “No Disc” on playing. Compatible with all the types of DVD Drives, these short-lived discs are definitely not too good ecologically but are still gaining ground in France, Italy and Scandinavian nations. They are popular with the rental services for you can rent these DVDs without the pain of retuning them back. Things don’t last in this world anyway but don’t ever record love songs for your loved one on this one!
