The Dutch Police Department has banned Segways from public roads. Segways are self balancing two-wheeled scooters that are common in Netherlands.
Segway Netherlands director Piet Kruijt has commented that he is completely shocked by this decision and he also ensured that they will be trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
This decision will surely make hundreds of Segway owners unhappy.
Police department has also stated that the vehicles have not been approved by the Royal traffic agency and they cannot allow the vehicles without the approval neither can they issue a license plate for the vehicle.
The reason that the traffic agency has given for not approving the vehicles is that they don’t have a brake and the rider has to lean back if he wants to stop it. That is dangerous on public roads.
Other distributors of the scooter have said that this will not be the end of Segways in Netherlands as these scooters are environment friendly and the authorities cannot stop them from plying on the roads.
