Rob Bushway and Craig Pringle have highlighted the way tablet PC has emerged and what’ll be its future in the coming years. I’d stick to Rob’s view considering ‘tablet’ just as a feature that’ll slowly capture almost all existing systems in the future, rather than paying emphasis only on tablet PCs.

As users, we’ve been looking forward to a system that allows us to write with the ink, or e-ink to be more precise, pump in the buttons on the keyboard and also have touch interface. The year 2005, no doubt, was the year of the Tablet PC, but now it’s time for the UMPC to take over and act as a bridge giving way to the realization of our dreams.

The UMPC/Origami is not showcased as a tablet PC though it supports ink, and clearly reflects the scenario of such types in the year 2007, where there’ll be no buzz with respect to the tablet and it’ll be quietly imbibed by notebooks and other UMPCs.

Microsoft’s Mobile PC vision, clearly depicted in the image above, shows how the tablet PCs will be morphed in the coming years. We must look forward to incorporate inking functionality throughout the mobile experience from UMPC to laptops and from desktops to search boxes and from Adobe to Vista.
