Whenever we talk about the ongoing format war going on in the electronic industry, the need of HD-DVDs and Blu-rays raise plethora of questions, and the whole hullabaloo force us to think, what is wrong with the current DVDs.
David Pogue, in his well-researched article, questions the very need of the new formats that are literally forced on us with unreasonable high price tags. Moreover, it holds true, when the original DVD movies offer impeccable picture and surround sound with reasonable DVD player prices.
As far as picture clarity goes, no doubt, high-definition TV scores above DVD and offers more storage. However, the real problem for consumers arises when the two major players of the format war, Toshiba and Sony, are reluctant to offer open format compatibility to each other on its players.
