For the music lovers who love to “see it” to “feel it,” this is the DIY that will satisfy their senses. All you need is some tape, pliers, wires and amplifiers, and you can transform your old TV into a music visualizer, with dancing lines. Also, a little electronics knowledge would be a lifesaver.
Just pull out the wires of vertical deflection coil at the back of the B&W TV, and connect them to an amplifier output. You will see constant graphs flowing across the screen, which are a result of music signal’s varying pull over the constant electron beam, crossing the TV screen at 100 Hz to 1000 Hz. If you want to see a dot that expands into wavy circles, then patch both coils to your sound source. You can even use it as an oscilloscope. This will surely save your beloved TV from going into the landfill. If you still need every detail, visit Instructables. Video and pics after the jump.
