DIY satellite relays breathtaking pictures of the Earth

Posted By: Bharat BhushanSharma | Aug 29 2009

Some ideas really rock the world. The most we can think of cameras is, make one for our needs on Earth, but John Gordon, out of hobby, sent a homemade computer-controlled (arduino based) camera into the skies. Packing the camera into a protective box, John launched it with a weather balloon, traveling almost 100,000 feet above Earth (above 99% of Earth's atmosphere), the images that the camera managed clicking are just breathtaking to say the least, beyond words for me so I say watch them yourself. Adafruit has the camera kit available, you can get one to try and build your own satellite. The next similar launch would be with a camera laden with sensors to capture videos instead of photos. Catch the video after the jump.
