Does the thought of losing your precious data saved on the hard disk or any other optical media constantly bother you? Do you often maintain more than one copy of the data on a separate storage medium? If yes, then Millenniata's M-DISC is the perfect solution for you. Ideal for storing around 20 to 50 GB of data, the M-DISC is being touted as an optical disc that lasts forever or 1000 years to be more precise.

Unlike the DVDs, CDs and Blu-ray dics in use today, the M-DISC is a high quality digital storage medium. The use of inorganic and synthetic material that are highly stable and heat-resistant make the storage medium highly durable. While burning data on the M-DISC, the data is etched or engraved in the form of permanent pits and voids on the surface of the disc. And once written, the data cannot be corrupted, erased or overwritten by most natural processes such as heat, water and sunlight.
The present day optical discs use organic dyes and low power to engrave the data on the surface of the disc, while the M-DISC uses five times of that energy and much higher temperatures for engraving the information on to the disc. The data on the disc can be burned using the normal DVD burning softwares available for optical discs.
M-DISC is already up on the company's website for a pre-order. LG, partner of Millenniata and the manufacturer of laptops will soon offer a Super-Multi Drive, which can be used to write M-DISC as well as other optical discs.
Although, most of the information is present on the computer-clouds today, this innovative storage medium has a great deal of potential. It can be really useful in archiving priceless information, especially about the history of the world, people and places we never might see again.
