DAVID Laser Range Scanning helps create 3-D scan of an object

If you think that creating a 3D model of an object is a difficult job, you need to try your hands at DAVID, a freeware program that allows the users having a computer, a webcam, a background, and a laser to create a 3-dimentional scan of a object.

Just calibrate the corner background and place the object in front of it. After that, hold the laser freely in your hand and 'brush' the laser line over the object. In the mean time, PC will automatically compute 3D coordinates of the scanned object surface.

If the brushing of the whole object with laser is done properly, the finished image can be rotated. Well, you might need to rotate the object around and around to have a full 360-degrees view. Anyhow, this is quite a simple process to give a 3D looks to any object.
