Dancing swan robot to scintillate your senses

Its not often that robots can evoke such emotions in humans. They either clean the house or serve breakfast, all indulged in their technicality. I don’t think any robot would have paid attention to the elegance in is moves. But, the dancing swan robot created at Mälardalen University does exactly that, brings elegance in the way it moves by dancing to music. This one meter tall robot has been built by a modular system. That totally explains the presence of 19 different joints on its body. The idea of a dancing robot was originally envisioned by Lars Asplund and his colleague Kerstin Gauffin and the final machine has been choreographed by Asa Unander-Scharin. She has taught the swan her systematic choreography with the help of a computer inside that recalls the movement pattern, playing it as a dance sequence

Lars Asplund, Professor of Computer Science at Malardalen University in Vasteras, Sweden says, "We want to explore the limits of what a robot can do, what human expressions it can mimic, and how it affects people's perception of the robot when it makes an appearance in art and dance." So, does this mean that with the changing time, there might be a day when robots will also be acting? With a robot dancing, this all might as well become a reality in the near future. The dancing swan will be shown at Sweden's largest book fair in Gothenburg on September 23-26.
