Crosslink flexible lighting could revolutionize the gaze of the future

Posted By: Naveen Kumar | Jan 16 2007

Have you ever thought of any material that can effectively offer almost any object the ability to become a light source? If your answer is "NO", it's time to think of the same. A start-up Crosslink has developed such kind of material that boasts an array of real-world applications. If this new type of electroactive polymer material with extraordinary properties reaches full commercialization, it could change the looks of the future.

SuperFlex is a lightweight, crushable, durable electroluminescent (EL) lighting technology and can be exploited to light in both the visible and near-infrared (NIR) spectrums regardless of the twisted or tattered images. This breakthrough technology will be first used for military purpose in the form of softwall shelters where the lighting system is semi-permanently attached to the inner side of the shelter.

If we take a look at the future prospects of this technology, we can look forth to fabrics, compounds, plastics and metals coated with SuperFlex. That will indeed revolutionize the whole way we look at the future. Another possible and positive usage can be in the form of foldable map for military personals for reading it in complete darkness with night goggles since it will emanate its own infrared light.

Whoa! I am impressed and will love to see this technology profoundly influencing our living, attire, and possessions.
