Think mechanical spider think Wild Wild West! First things first though, is it only me, or there are others too who thought the movie (original) was lame?
Well, the movie might have been lame, but I’ll tell you what wasn’t lame, the huge mechanical spider. Fortunately there are geeks out there trying to translate the one cool thing from the movie into reality. There’s a site called char robotic that seems to specialize in this sort of stuff. One of the coolest things on this site is a prototype of a spidey robot (I thought of the name myself!).
And here’s what the site says:
Spider is a 6 legs walking machine that can move in any direction. It uses 18 servo motors so it needs a big battery and consume more than 2A to move.
Anyone out there interested in making this thing himself can do so because the source code to control 24 servo motors with an At90s2313 microcontroller is provided on the site itself. So go ahead built one yourself. But first check out some neat images in the gallery.
