Couple builds a robot child that laughs, jokes and knows just everything

Posted By: Bharat BhushanSharma | Aug 14 2010

This is just like it would happen in a fairytale or a sci-fi movie, a childless couple of Tony Ellis and wife, Judie from Crowborough, East Sussex, have created a four-foot robot Aimec. The robot child that completes the 21st century family is lively enough to keep the couple entertained like a child would. Aimec cracks jokes with its human parents and laughs around in a pre-programmed laughter. The robot has also been programmed to snore while sleeping, and to wakes up with a bit of a stretch.

Aimec — full name Artificially Intelligent Mechanical Electronic Companion 3 — can connect wirelessly to the internet, which allows the bot to looks up stuff it doesn’t understand online, and then talk about just anything you want it to, it can also connect to household appliances to turn on the TV, or dim the lights etc. Mr Ellis believes, once complete with the little modification that are required, would be the first commercially viable, affordable and useful home robot when it is available in next couple of years.

I think Aimec could sell for about £200 in the shops. It is basically ready - we are just waiting for a manufacturer to come onboard and make it happen.
