holographic rfid tag

Counterfeiting has long been the bane of the luxury goods industry and in many cases, counterfeit goods have ended up selling more than the originals. The Luxury goods companies like Louis Vuitton, long grappling with this issue finally have some reason to cheer. Holographic RFID tags are finally here; courtesy Hitachi and the printing experts at Toppan. These tags, when engraved onto the packaging of luxury goods or the luxury goods themselves ensure the originality of the product and are counterfeiter-proof atleast for the time being, this considering the fact that the cunterfeiters have until now always found ways to imitate even the most complex hologram. So what goes into this Holographic RFID tag? In layman parlance, the hologram: a flat optical image, which appears as a 3 dimensional image to the naked eye is combined with a Radio frequency identification device to identify the product. Moreover, the RFID chip being encrypted, makes it very difficult for counterfeiters to recover data from it.

This forms the Holographic RFID. Also, the Holographic RFID can be customised into a design that is pleasing to the eye thus aiding the visual aestheticism of the product. Only future will tell how efficient this technology is in curbing counterfeiters.
