Semi-Rugged computing, what is that? Yes, you heard it right. That is precisely what this compact slate PC, the F5 from Motion computing aims to do. Motion computing aims to target the service industry professionals and field agents who need a rugged PC which can take the rough and tumble of the field. The F5 features a water, dust, shock and temperature chassis that can take everything that an inhospitable terrain can throw at it. Well almost, it is not fire proof though. And the dimunitive F5 is surprisingly big on features. Dig deeper and at the heart of the matter you will find this pint sized powerhouse being powered by a 1.2Ghz Intel Centrino U1400 processor. Computing is done on a 10.4 inch stylus-sensitive XGA screen which can be viewed from any angle, which is a welcome departure from most slate PCs' narrow viewing angles.

Memory is a 40gb hard disk which is definitely a no-no for rugged conditions but thankfully the makers offer a 32gb flash memory as an option. You will have to shell out extra greenbacks for that. Connectivity is aided by built in wifi and bluetooth. So this looks like just another Slate PC, What is it that makes this machine different? Well, here it is. The F5 features WWAN network, which makes it the only slate PC to be able to connect to advanced networks like Wimax. A 2 megapixel camera will take care of shutterbugs among you and additional features like the RFID tag reader, biometric scanner, barcode reader, ethernet and a VGA output ensure's that the F5 is fully loaded.
The dampeners are an average battery life of 1.5 hours (motion computing should do something about his) and a steep price tag of $2,699 to $4,000 depending on the configuration. But if you are looking at a dependable, rugged, feature rich slate PC and don't mind shelling out extra bucks for functionality, look no further, the F5 is for you.
