With the nano age closing on the humans the only gadget (well, somewhat) that remains to be compressed is the age old refrigerator. The noise and the massive size that has only increased with time needs to be taken care off and the good news is that a group of researchers from UK has started thinking about the portability factor. Not just that, the level and the speed of cooling would increase ten-fold and this is evident in the initial stages of the research. Also, the noise which is a big problem would be catered too, thus making the entire development an embarking achievement in this field. The environmentalists would also adore this piece of information as the change in technology would see the overall energy consumption go down by 15% in UK alone. The breakthrough is a consequence of a new approach that constantly applies electric field (force) to long molecules dubbed polar polymers. The need of rubber (now a more specific process with reduced harmful molecules) that adds to the noise factor would simultaneously be eradicated. All that we now hope for is that this discovery turns into a utility that makes the entire affair of refrigeration a cherishable one.
