With TV majors like Mitsubishi and Samsung all set to have more than one million US homes fitted with 3D HDTVs by the end of the year, there is little doubt that the future of home theatre lies in 3D. The likes of Disney, Universal, Philips, Samsung, Sony, Thomson and IMAX have already banded together as the 3D Home Consortium to promote the production and distribution of media in 3D technology while a content deal signed by Mitsubishi, Nvidia and Aspen Media Products promises to launch a whole bunch of computer and video games in 3D format. Dolby have already announced that they will be making the Dolby 3D Digital Cinema technology available to cinema operators very soon and with Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds 3-D Concert set to be the first 3D Blu-ray disc come August 19, we can truly say that the age of 3D media is finally upon us. I just hope they find an alternative to the dumb-looking 3D glasses soon.
