Color Electronic Paper and Optical Writing System from Fuji Xerox

A color electronic paper prototype along with A5 size optical writing device was displayed by Fuji Xerox Co Ltd. at the International Display Workshops (IDW), which is open from Dec 5 to 7, 2007. The technology incorporates color liquid crystals developed from selective reflection effect of cholesteric liquid crystals and three layers of red, green, and blue laminated to enable full-color display.

This resulted in integrating sphere reflectance of 27.4% with contrast ratio of 6.4 for A6 size (105 × 148mm) and 0.4mm thin display. Presently it weighs 10.4g, but company plans to build A4 size display after getting an enthusiastic response from public for its high brightness, high contrast, color strength, and rewriting speed. Whereas, A5 size optical writing device equipped with an LCD panel for laptop computers and green and red LED arrays demonstrated a speed of writing two A6 size electronic papers/ less than a second.
