To aid human nose, which apparently can detect around 10,000 different smells, CogniScent has invented its ScenTraK electronic nose to detect explosives, chemicals, and other chemical compounds for safety.
The 3-pound handheld odor-detector equips responsive sensors to smell and detect the presence of harmful substances in the surrounding air. The ScenTraK outshines other existing odor detection technologies as it targets the odor rather than the chemical itself and in addition, it’s comparatively very cheap and easy to use.
CogniScent is further planning to launch the device for general household purpose too to detect toxic mold and other chemicals. The company has just received a patent for a DNA-based sensor material to make ScenTraK detect millions of chemical compounds.
