CoatHanger/Cardboard + Camera = Homemade scanner

Posted By: Vineet Chauhan | Aug 14 2009

In the present time, buying a scanner-copier-fax for personal scanning purposes is really profligate. One cheap solution is having your digital or mobile camera work as a scanner, but it requires a lot of expertise and patience to hold the camera still and get a non-blurry image. Here is a DIY that will save you your time and money, and though without involving any complex circuitry or over-the-head electronic mumbo-jumbo, will eliminate the need for a scanner.

Conceived by Matt Embrey, the only prerequisites for this DIY are a camera, sturdy cardboard or two coat-hanger and a rubber band. For the cardboard stand, follow the plan and cut the cardboard accordingly to construct the unit. The coat-hanger stand is even easier to build, just some muscle-power and a little bending. But one thing: adjust the height of the stands such that your camera can accommodate the whole image to be scanned. Images speak a thousand words, so go check out the full procedure in images after the break.
