iPhone from Apple had been projected by many as a device that would redefine both computing and mobile communication. This is what baffled the researchers at Hewlett-Packard, who thought, how the iPhone might benefit them. The conception of the thought provoked the computer and printing company, which has quietly introduced a mobile printing feature, NYTimes reports.

Dubbed Cloudprint, the project is developed over several months at the H.P. Labs by a group of researchers. It will make possible to print documents using mobile phone on any printer almost anywhere in the world.

How process a document

CloudPrint is a technology that will allow users to save a file on the HP service/site, and then recover it form anywhere to print the same.

The users will first print the documents to HP servers, connected to the internet. Then the server will assign it a document code, and will transmit the document to a cell phone. The document can now be retrieved and printed from any location.

How to recover the document

The document via short message service is sent to the user’s mobile phone. To retrieve the printed document, the user will enter the cell phone number and the document code on any computer where the Cloudprint website and printer are available. The document will then be retrieved as a PDF, ready to be printed.

Accessibility

Being in the initial stages, the project isn’t very user-friendly yet. It just works on the PC’s running on Windows. Moreover, the accessibility for now depends upon the amount of printing ventures that will adopt Cloudprint, so that the service can be provided to the customers. That sounds too practical to practice - to go looking for hideouts that provide the service. To do away with the quandary, HP is providing a user-friendly directory service that will use Google Maps to help you find a location to print.

Safety

Be least concerned with the document’s safety; because the project is well designed for you cell phone security, which requires both the mobile number and a code that’s generated.

Cloudprint is soon coming our way, and it promises to redefine computing and mobile communication, with its ability to print documents on your office or home printer, no matter where you are. The idea actually seems revolutionary, but its efficiency will be well derived from the amount of users it manages to attract.
