Shanghai Sanxin Technology Development in china is slated to introduce the Lasen SMP-101, a Portable Media Player i.e. a laser-based projector – the first of its kind in the world. We’ve seen a laser-beam-steering projector in the Microvision’s PicoP, but unlike it the Lasen SMP-101 only laser-based on the laser beam projection, so PicoP still lives novel. Along with being a PMP that projects laser beams the device very avidly supports a 800×600 SGVA offering 250:1 contrast and over 20 lumens. The PMP stuffs in a good 2GB of memory, makes provision for a USB port and in addition to is swanky make supports a Wide range of files including PDFs, AVI, MP4 and DivX to name a few. Chinese have impressed us yet again. No info on the price or availability, but I guess this will be a big seller beyond China, though I am only presuming.
