China developing world’s largest earthquake simulator

Just a week after the country observed first anniversary of the deadly Sichuan earthquake that left nearly 87,000 dead or missing, Shanghai Tongji University has started to build the world’s largest quake simulator. The simulator’s four vibrating platforms are capable of carrying 200 tons of load and will generate a simulated quake to test the designs of bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers etc. to withstand the destructive power generated by the movement of the Earth's crust. Its’ Chinese in disaster containment mode!
