Chariot vehicle is supposed to support ten times more weight and travel 100 times longer than the Apollo. Learning lessons from Apollo, Goodyear and NASA announced a collaboration to develop a special non-pneumatic tire to be used by vehicles on the Moon, and potentially, on Mars.
The vehicle is designed to meet the payload transport, range, terrain and speed specifications defined by NASA’s Lunar Architecture Team. It’s expected to serve as 1g-scaled system for technology evaluation and EVA/Ops field testing.
Chariot is preparing for demonstration with its special tires, a year from now at the Johnson Space Center in Texas. After that, lunar truck will travel hundreds of thousands of miles to work at the lunar surface.
